Registration is now open for the NSFA Hawthorne Training Symposium, a two-day training event on November 6-7, 2026 in Hawthorne, Nevada. Hosted by Mineral County Fire & EMS, it’s open to all Nevada fire and EMS personnel who want to train together, sharpen operational skills, and earn certifications and CEUs.
Four Classes to Choose From
- ☢️ Hazmat Incident Commander: state-certified, 16 hours. Attend both Friday and Saturday to receive the certificate.
- 🔥 Car Burn Prop: hands-on live-fire training on the Nevada State Fire Marshal’s propane car burn prop.
- 🏡 Wildfire Risk Assessment: 4 hours. Learn to assess homes and give homeowners recommendations that reduce risk for the whole community.
- 🚑 Medical Emergency on the Fire Ground: 4 hours, approved for EMS CEU hours.

Registration includes all training sessions over both days, plus dinner on Friday and Saturday. Early rates end October 17. After that, member registration is $100 and general registration is $125. Not a member yet? Join at nsfa.org and register at the member rate.

Lodging is first come, first served, so book early. Options include El Capitan Travel Lodge ($99/night), Whiskey Flats RV Park ($50/night), Hawthorne’s Best (10-15% off), and free dry camping at the fire station.
Important: All firefighters participating in the Car Burn Prop must complete the Live Fire Accountability Form, have it signed by their chief, and submit it before training.
