2026 NSFA Annual General Membership Meeting Recap

What a great turnout for the 2026 NSFA Annual General Membership Meeting, held this past Saturday, June 27th, at the Historic Golconda Schoolhouse and via Zoom! Thank you to everyone who joined us, whether in person or virtually, to support your fellow Nevada firefighters.

A Heartfelt Thank You to Our Guests

We were honored to welcome a wonderful group of guests and partners who took the time to update our membership on critical issues facing the fire service in Nevada:

Steve Hirsch — National Volunteer Fire Council

Jed Miner — Jed Miner and Associates Insurance Services Inc.

Ron Bollier — Nevada Division of Forestry, State Fire and Aviation Unit

Bobbie Sullivan — Nevada EMS Program

Kelly Baratti — Nevada Fire Chiefs Association

Adam Rowley — State Fire Marshal’s Training Division

We also took a moment to honor the memory of Bob Heath, who passed away in late May. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Congratulations, Golconda Fire Protection District — Fire Department of the Year!

A huge congratulations to Golconda Fire Protection District, named NSFA’s Fire Department of the Year! It’s only fitting that this year’s meeting was hosted right in Golconda — a true testament to this department’s dedication and service to their community. Thank you for everything you do, and congratulations on this well-earned recognition!

Congratulations to Our Scholarship Recipients

We’re proud to recognize this year’s scholarship winners for their dedication and achievement:

Dean Landreth (Carlin) — LN Curtis Scholarship

Haley Warren (Carlin) — Tiffany Urresti Lee Engine Company Scholarship

Bailey Prinz (Fallon) — NSFA Scholarship

Congratulations to all three! We’re excited to see what you accomplish in your future studies and careers.

Welcoming Jeff Prinz to the Board

We’re also thrilled to welcome Jeff Prinz as the newest member of the NSFA Board of Directors. Jeff’s involvement with the Fallon Churchill Fire Department and his enthusiasm for supporting Nevada’s firefighting community make him a great addition to our leadership team. Welcome aboard, Jeff!

The full board for the year ahead includes Steve McClintock (President), Victor Harrell (Vice President), Jacob Stark, Jeff Winrod, Ken Smith, and Jeff Prinz — all confirmed by acclamation. Mike Heideman was also reappointed as Executive Director, and we look forward to his continued leadership.

Looking Ahead

The meeting covered a lot of ground — from wildfire response updates and training opportunities to financial reports and legislative priorities — and we’ll be sharing more updates on those fronts in the weeks ahead. A special thanks as well to everyone who stuck around for the Flashpoint Mobile Live Fire Training over the weekend.

This organization is built on the strength of its members, partners, and volunteers. Thank you for showing up, stepping up, and continuing to protect those who protect Nevada.

2024 Annual NSFA Member Meeting to Be Held Via Zoom

June 22, 2024 @ 9AM
Via Zoom

It was with heavy hearts that we announced the cancellation of the Nevada State Firefighter’s Association’s 89th Annual Fire Training Conference, which was to be held in Lovelock, Nevada. This event, a cherished tradition for nearly nine decades, has been a cornerstone of our community, fostering camaraderie, professional development, and the exchange of invaluable skills and knowledge.

The Weight of This Decision

The decision to cancel this year’s conference was not made lightly. We understand the disappointment and frustration this news brought. For many of us, the conference is more than just an event—it’s a gathering of friends and colleagues who share a common mission. It’s a time to learn from one another, to honor our achievements, and to recommit to our vital work of protecting lives and property.

Looking Forward: Membership Meeting

Despite this setback, our commitment to the firefighter community remains unwavering. We will hold our annual membership meeting on Saturday, June 22 at 9 AM via Zoom.

Please register for the meeting using the following link: NSFA Membership Meeting Registration.

Zoom Etiquette for a Smooth Meeting

To ensure our virtual meeting is productive and respectful, here are some guidelines for good Zoom etiquette:

  1. Register Early: Complete your registration as soon as possible to ensure you receive the meeting details and can address any technical issues beforehand.
  2. Be Punctual: Join the meeting a few minutes early to test your audio and video settings and to avoid disrupting the session once it has started.
  3. Mute Your Microphone: Keep your microphone muted unless you are speaking to minimize background noise and distractions.
  4. Use Video Wisely: If possible, enable your video to create a more engaging and interactive atmosphere. However, be mindful of your surroundings and ensure there is nothing inappropriate or distracting in the background.
  5. Participate Actively: Engage in discussions, ask questions, and contribute your thoughts. Use the “raise hand” feature or the chat function to avoid interrupting others.
  6. Dress Appropriately: Wear appropriate attire as you would for an in-person meeting. This helps maintain a professional atmosphere.
  7. Stay Focused: Avoid multitasking during the meeting to give your full attention to the discussions and presentations.
  8. Technical Preparedness: Ensure you have a stable internet connection and that your device is charged or plugged in to avoid interruptions.

Moving Forward Together

While we will miss the invaluable in-person interactions and the rich experiences of our annual conference, we are confident that our virtual meeting will be a meaningful opportunity to connect and collaborate. Let us use this time to strengthen our bonds and prepare for a brighter, safer future.

Thank you for your understanding and continued dedication. We look forward to seeing you on Zoom and working together to overcome the challenges ahead.
