🧑‍🚒 Nevada Needs You. Become a Volunteer Firefighter Today.

Every day, volunteer firefighters across Nevada stand ready to protect our communities — from rural towns and tribal lands to desert highways and mountain valleys. These men and women are our neighbors, our coworkers, our friends — and you can be one of them.

🔥 Why Volunteer?

  • Make a Real Difference: You could be the reason someone makes it home.
  • Serve Your Community: Step up and protect the people and places you care about most.
  • Learn Life-Saving Skills: Get top-tier training in fire suppression, emergency medical response, and disaster preparedness.
  • Build Brotherhood and Sisterhood: Join a team that has your back — on and off duty.
  • Personal Growth: Leadership, teamwork, confidence — these stay with you for life.

đźš’ Who Can Volunteer?

You don’t have to be a superhero — just someone willing to serve.

Most Nevada departments welcome volunteers of all backgrounds, with training provided. If you’re 18 or older, physically fit, and have a desire to help others, you’re eligible to start your journey.

Some departments also have:

  • Junior Firefighter or Explorer Programs (ages 16–18)
  • Support Roles for logistics, communications, or rehab teams
  • EMS-only Volunteer Opportunities in certain counties

🌄 Where Are Volunteers Needed in Nevada?

Nevada’s rural and frontier communities rely heavily on volunteers. Whether you’re in:

  • Northern Nevada (Elko, Winnemucca, Ely)
  • Central regions (Tonopah, Austin)
  • Southern Nevada (Pahrump, Indian Springs, Caliente)

…there’s a department that needs you.

📚 What Training Will I Receive?

Volunteer firefighters receive the same National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) training standards as career firefighters. Most departments provide:

  • Basic Firefighter I & II Certification
  • Wildland Fire Training (Red Card)
  • Emergency Medical Response or EMT Training
  • Ongoing drills, simulations, and skills refreshers

Training is typically scheduled on evenings or weekends to accommodate work and family life.
