đźš’ Who Can Volunteer?
You don’t have to be a superhero — just someone willing to serve.
Most Nevada departments welcome volunteers of all backgrounds, with training provided. If you’re 18 or older, physically fit, and have a desire to help others, you’re eligible to start your journey.
Some departments also have:
- Junior Firefighter or Explorer Programs (ages 16–18)
- Support Roles for logistics, communications, or rehab teams
- EMS-only Volunteer Opportunities in certain counties
🌄 Where Are Volunteers Needed in Nevada?
Nevada’s rural and frontier communities rely heavily on volunteers. Whether you’re in:
- Northern Nevada (Elko, Winnemucca, Ely)
- Central regions (Tonopah, Austin)
- Southern Nevada (Pahrump, Indian Springs, Caliente)
…there’s a department that needs you.
📚 What Training Will I Receive?
Volunteer firefighters receive the same National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) training standards as career firefighters. Most departments provide:
- Basic Firefighter I & II Certification
- Wildland Fire Training (Red Card)
- Emergency Medical Response or EMT Training
- Ongoing drills, simulations, and skills refreshers
Training is typically scheduled on evenings or weekends to accommodate work and family life.
